"Never underestimate the memory of our women!"

As reported by Nancy Carter thru Dru Montemayor

It has been brought to my attention, after posting the last trivia question about the first woman member of the Vigilantes, that I may not have properly represented the actual facts of that momentous event.

According to Nanacy Carter, she and the other four ladies: J.R. Breuer, Judy Miller, Sharon Mueller, and Kate Buehring (all wives of members) were all inducted as members in November of 1995  as previously reported. However, the badge numbering system seems to be a bit different than the method used today. The five ladies each drew a badge randomly from a bag and of course, the number you drew was permanently assigned.

I hope I was not misunderstood when I posted the trivia question. I was not inferring that Judy Miller was "the first woman" to become a member. I guess I should have posed the question " who had the lowest badge number?".

Thanks Nancy for that insight, and to Dru for bringing it to my attention. Watch for more on this subject as it emerges.

Wow! Our readers report in!

As reported by Rusty Kimmich of North Carolina

After visiting this site, Rusty Kimmich, son of one of our past members, wanted to provide a little information about his father. Unfortunately Richard Kimmich(Badge 318) is now deceased (4 Nov 1981). He was awarded his badge in 1971 while stationed at Ft. Huachuca and was active with the Vigilantes until he retired from the military and moved away from the area. During his participation with the organization, hewas involved with Heldoradoand(this is exciting!) was part of the team that hanged 5 -term Arizona Senator and 1964 Presidential Candidate... Barry Goldwater! This event had been lost from our list of "Celebrity Hangings" for many years. Thank you Rusty for this wonderful insight into our past and for helping us to remember your father and one of our own.
